Code Enforcement Sweep: Message From RFCA President

In regards to the neighborhood wide county code enforcement sweep that is scheduled to occur the week of September 12th:

Due to the emergency situation caused hurricane Irene and the severe power outages and fallen trees in our neighborhood, it would have been impossible for inspectors to conduct the code enforcement sweep looking for rat related offences when it was first scheduled for the week of August 29th.

After speaking with County Councilman David Marks, he and I decided that it was best to delay the sweep for two weeks and that the prior notifications that had been given, including the paper notification that had already been distributed , was sufficient notice in addition to an update as to the new date on our RF Community blog.

The decision was made based on advice from Code enforcement officials as well. It was determined that in colder weather rats are less noticeable and the leaves that will begin to fall shortly will obscure violations. In addition, the neighborhood sweep team has a full schedule and many other neighborhoods are affected as well when there is an emergency like we had last week.

The County Councilman’s Office, The County Code Enforcement Office, and the Rodgers Forge Community Association continue to work together to help eradicate rats from our neighborhood.

Jennifer Helfrich

RFCA president
