Baltimore’s public works department is seeking another increase in water bills starting
next month under a proposal to be voted on Wednesday by the city’s spending board.
The department has proposed increasing water and sewer rates by about 9 percent,
costing the average family about $22.16 more a quarter, or $88 a year, according to city
documents.

The city Board of Estimates will vote Wednesday on whether to hold a May 18 hearing on
the proposed increases. If approved then, the rates would go into effect the following
day.

Public works spokesman Kurt Kocher was not available for comment.

The rates would apply to city customers as well as some residents in Anne Arundel, Carroll
and Howard counties. Users in Baltimore County could likely be impacted as well but
indirectly as the county sets its own water and sewer rates.

The city passed a 9 percent increase last year, followed by a similar hike in Baltimore
County."
