From our neighbors and Surrounding Communities:
As one of the many parents in the neighborhood, I am asking that everyone please watch their speed when driving through. We are on Brandon, one of the widest streets (2-way traffic), and people drive so fast on our road - even fellow parents. I can only imagine how it must be to live on Stevenson. I know it's so easy to get distracted and not realize how fast we are driving, but please be aware that there are kids out playing all over the place. And while I'm sure we are all brainwashing our kids to not run into the street, we all know it happens. In light of Halloween tomorrow, please be extra vigilant for the little ones! – posted on Nextdoor Neighbor 10/30

This just in from one of our neighboring communities:
First post -
The magazine salesman came to our house last night.  Boy was he insistent.  He claimed that our neighbor recommended that he knock on our door to talk with us.  He had his sales speech memorized and polished, and every time I tried to break away, he came up with something new.  The whopper of the sales pitch was that he was the son of a retired Air Force colonel who lived around the block and that his father was pushing him to sell the magazines.

I can see how people can get sucked in on the scam.  He reminded me of the Travelers that would swoop into my hometown and offer to seal coat driveways for senior citizens, or fix their roofs.
Reply -
He came to our house to but with a slightly different story. Said our elderly neighbor sent him and I foolishly opened the door! Scary.

Stolen package:
It looks as if the holidays are coming. I received the following message from a neighbor today:
(from a neighboring neighborhood.)
I just wanted to let you know that a package was delivered to my house; it was opened and stolen. I'm at Blenheim Rd. Neighbors should be aware that this is still going on especially going into the holidays.
Robert Williams from Rodgers Forge
I spoke with Officer Kindervater regarding some recovered property from the vehicles that were broken into on Wednesday around 3 a.m. along the Bellona Avenue/ Blenheim Road/Dunkirk Road corridor.

There was a Leapster & a Leap Pad, both white & green, taken from possibly a Minivan. They were in a Target bag that also contained baby wipes. There was also some headphones in the bag, one was pink w/ skulls on it & the other was purple w/ polka dots. If you are the owner of these items they are currently at the Towson Precinct but if they aren't claimed today they will be taken to headquarters on Joppa Road.

I do have some information about the suspects. One was cooperative and & the other resisted arrest. The one has had other theft from vehicle charges in the past. The cooperative suspect wasn't sure which vehicle(s) they took the stuff from. The suspect stated that the property I mentioned above possibly came from a Minivan. The suspects did not admit to the bike thefts the previous night on Dunkirk. It looks like their m.o. is stealing from vehicles.

The Towson Precinct # is 410-887-2361. I wish I could give you the case # as a reference but I don't have that.

Rodgers Forge Crime Prevention- Posted Oct 20th

By Robert Williams from Rodgers Forge

Last week, I sent an email to Captain Howard of the Towson Precinct detailing the crime prevention efforts of the Rodgers Forge C.O.P. I also mentioned to him how better lit the neighborhood has become thanks to neighbors donating and purchasing the Mr. Beams Spotlights. With his permission, I present to you his reply. It's not just directed to the C.O.P. but also to the entire community.

"Thank you very much Rob for taking the time to explain the positive steps that you all have taken to help light up Rodgers Forge. We encourage communities to develop the kind of cohesive teamwork that your community displays and to surely provide the type of security measures that your community and the C.O.P. has deployed. The Rodgers Forge C.O.P. is doing a fantastic job and is a model for other C.O.P.'s and should be observed by other communities looking to establish a C.O.P. We in the Baltimore County Police Department encourage communities to form C.O.P.'s as we feel it helps the community to protect itself in addition to police coverage. As mentioned many times in the past at different settings, the Baltimore County Police Department has around 1,900 sworn officers that police around 815,000 Baltimore County citizens. As a result, we depend on the citizens to alarm us anytime they observe suspicious subjects or vehicles in their communities. Without the assistance of you all we could not be successful catching the bad guys and clearing cases as we do. So thumbs up to the Rodgers Forge C.O.P. and thank you all."

The Pumpkin Patrol will be out and about:
Our children are our greatest resource, their safety our top priority!!  Again this year we will be out patrolling on October 30, 31, and November 1 to attempt to keep to a minimum the Halloween pranks and keep our treaters safe.
Please drive carefully these nights as the sound of many feet will be pattering around the neighborhood.

Click here to view the archived minutes

note: Often times in the minutes, attachments are referred to. I do not always receive digital copies of these attachments as they are hard copies attached to the minutes reviewed at board meetings for approval. Recently there has been an ongoing review of the bylaws and many proposed changes have been referred to. These proposed changes are posted directly to the RFC website per the requirements in our bylaws. They can be viewed here.

The section referencing the guideline change to pools I do not have a digital copy of but am working on obtaining that.

Plant a Tree For Cheap!

Tree Rodgers Forge would like to share a great opportunity to help rebuild the tree canopy here at home.  With tree prices reduced to $20 - $30, Baltimore County is doing its best to put tree planting within your budget.  If you're interested in a big tree for your yard, please note that applications must be in by Tuesday, October 8th!  Additional details below:

Baltimore County's Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (EPS) is hosting its 8th bi-annual Big Trees Sale to encourage homeowners to plant trees in their yards.
"Big native trees not only beautify your yard and neighborhood, their shade can reduce your energy costs, their roots help keep stormwater from running off into our waterways and their leaves help clean carbon from the atmosphere," said County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.
Each spring and fall, the Big Trees Sale features a selection of native trees supplied by Baltimore County's reforestation nursery. Big Trees are Maryland native species such as oaks and maples that grow taller and cast shade over a wider area than do smaller trees such as dogwoods and flowering cherries. They need room to grow and take longer to mature, but they provide greater and longer-lasting benefits to homeowners when properly sited. Big Trees species generally outperform smaller ornamental tree species for providing environmental benefits, with a greater ability to soak up excess rainwater, save energy through shading, remove atmospheric carbon, and add to property values for single family homes.
To date, more than 300 citizens have planted nearly 1,700 big trees purchased though this program. This year's sale will take place on Saturday October 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Baltimore County Center for Maryland Agriculture and Farm Park located at 1114 Shawan Road in Cockeysville.  EPS is also offering Tree Shelter Kits to better protect the trees from deer browsing and buck rubbing.
Eleven different species are offered for the fall sale. Trees are mostly four to five feet, in three-gallon pots, and are offered for prices ranging from $20 to $30. The Big Trees website (www.baltimorecountymd.gov/bigtrees) has pictures and descriptions of each species to help residents find the right tree for their property.
Trees must be ordered online using the online order form available online at: (www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/environment/forestsandtrees/bigtreesorder.html).
For convenience, people who prefer to can pick up their trees early from the EPS nursery in Chase. EPS encourages people to order trees as soon as possible before species sell out.
Species Offered for the Fall Sale
  • Black Oak
  • Bur Oak
  • Chestnut Oak
  • Pin Oak
  • Northern Red Oak
  • Scarlet Oak
  • Swamp White Oak
  • River Birch
  • Eastern Redbud
  • Pawpaw

Car broken into –Posted 9/24/13
My car was broken into last night. It was parked on Heathfield, just south of Dumbarton. There are no marks, so I am wondering if one of my kids didn't shut a door all the way, or if somehow they pried a door open? Two small items were stolen -- a small box with coins for the meters around town and a bag for jumper cables (although they left the cables. Maybe they thought the bag was a computer bag?) I have a call into the police, mainly so they can track how often this is occurring in our neighborhood. Which is A LOT!

Truck Broken into – 9/25/13

My truck was broken into last night. It was parked on Pinehurst between Hopkins and Dunkirk. My golf clubs, shoes and backpack were stolen. I'm hoping they may have dropped them somewhere because of no value or too heavy to carry. If anyone saw or found anything please respond back. Thanks

Man sitting in car – 10/1
This morning at 6 a.m. I found a man sitting in the passenger side of my car - going through the center console. In disbelief of finding him, I locked him in my car for a few seconds before he unlocked and ran out. We're on the 100 block of Overbrook. The police were there shortly after. There was nothing in our car for him to take so no damage or property lost. He was about 6'1" blk early 20's, thin & was wearing a bright orange sweatshirt. Just wanted to give a heads up!
LIGHTS ON!!
There has been an overwhelming response to the Mr. Beam lights that Dora suggested on Nextdoor Neighbor.  Rob Williams has been organizing the contributions by various contributors’ and dispersing amongst Forgers requesting a light to light up the alley behind their homes.  We would like to thank everyone that has donated lights, help to install them, and the continued interest in “LIGHTING UP THE FORGE”!!  If you have any questions please contact the RFCOP through our email rfcitizonsonpatrol@gmail.com.

HALLOWEEN IS AROUND THE CORNER!!
The goblins, ghosts, and many other creatures will be out soon looking for a trick or treat.  The citizens on patrol will also be out in full force to provide protection for our young trick-or-treaters, and also to help deter mischievous night events as much as possible.  But we ask your assistance as a resident to also report any activity you may see by calling 911.  Let us all work together to make this a safe and wonderful holiday for our young trick-or-treaters.  The “Pumpkin Patrol” will be out on watch, will you?
