Two 14-year-old boys were arrested at the Towson branch of the Baltimore County Library in connection with two burglary incidents on March 7.
Around noon last Thursday, a neighbor caught the boys attempting to take a bicycle from a yard, according to a Baltimore County Police report. The burglars fled the scene, in the 300 block of Overbrook Road, on foot.
Police said the juveniles then burglarized another home on Hopkins Road before they were ultimately apprehended at the library.

Kudos to the neighbor who called the police!!  This is the second time a Rodgers Forge neighbor has called the police in reference to incidences in the Forge that resulted in an arrest.  That is what it is all about – awareness and calling 911!!!  Thank you from the RFCOP and Rodgers Forge!!

Suspicious Activity – claiming to be BGE representatives:
Please advise your neighbors of this and follow the lead of the resident.

On 3/11 a resident of Copeleigh Rd, 21212 had a young (20's) African-American male knock on her door claiming to be a BGE representative asking to view her recent BGE bill. Please remind your family and neighbors to always request identification of anyone coming to their door requesting information or aid, if they're legitimate they'll have no problem producing it.  If necessary the Agency (BGE, Comcast, Verizon, etc) can always be contacted too to verify their representatives. Don't give out information to anyone you're not familiar with or recognize.  Call 9-1-1 when suspicious persons of this type are in your community so that our Officers can respond and identify them.

If you view the last two weeks of burglaries and other incidents in just the past two weeks a negative trend is developing in Rodgers Forge that we have not had in the past three years.  They are as follows:
3  -  First degree Burglaries
2  -  Second degree Burglaries
2  -  Fourth degree Burglaries
1  -  Second degree Assault
Summer is not yet here and already we have accrued more Burglaries in the past 2 weeks then we had in almost a year.  The reason for the drastic increase is unknown, but the answer is we need EVERYONE in the Forge to be extra vigilant!  The Citizens on Patrol can only do so much; we desperately need your help to curb this drastic increase in crime. We welcome all suggestions and most of all volunteers.
We are a community of 1,777 homes.  If one household could donate one hour of patrolling a month, for 24 hour around the clock coverage we would only need 720 homes to cover one full month.  We understand there are not many people who have free time at night, but if you see the times above, a lot is happening during the day and in the early morning and evening hours.  Any help given is appreciated.

Tree Rodgers Forge Spring Street Tree Program and Application

Tree Rodgers Forge Street Tree Program

Please submit by April 6, 2013 for Spring Planting

Why plant street trees?
Trees create healthier and more attractive neighborhoods. Street trees increase property values, cool our homes, reduce street noise, enhance walkability, clean the air, and filter and absorb rain water runoff.  These benefits contribute to the overall health of our community, local streams, and the Chesapeake Bay.

What is a street tree?
Street trees typically grow in the area between your sidewalk and the street curb within the County’s right of way (or on your front lawn next to the sidewalk within the County easement). The trees are free by way of a Chesapeake Bay Trust grant given to Blue Water Baltimore (formed by the merge of the Jones Falls Watershed Association with four other watershed groups in Baltimore). Tree planting can be performed by the homeowner and/or volunteers, or BWB will plant your tree for a fee of $50.

Minimum requirements for a street tree:
  1. Own the house at the requested location and have a 4’ by 10’ planting area or wider.
  2. Agree to water the tree weekly between May and October for its first two years.
  3. Give BWB and Tree Rodgers Forge permission to plant the tree by completing this form.
  4. Call Miss Utility a week before the planting (you will be notified by BWB or TRF before the date).
  5. Volunteer on the day of the planting or pay BWB to plant your tree (planting in early May).

YES!  I WANT A STREET TREE PLANTED AT MY HOUSE!

I give BWB and Tree Rodgers Forge permission to plant a street tree in the right-of-way along my house. I agree to water the tree weekly from May to October for the first two years. I understand that some locations may not be suitable for trees due to utilities, signs, or width of sidewalk, and that the Baltimore County Dept. of Environmental Protection & Sustainability shall make final determinations of suitable locations and species. The trees, once planted, will be the property of Baltimore County. By signing or emailing this form I request a tree to be planted at my house and in an existing planting location and agree to the requirements above to ensure its survival.
