Area Closings Update

Senior centers and recreation centers shut down at noon.   All county administrative hearings are cancelled for Tuesday.

 

Towson University and Goucher College are closed Tuesday.

 

The county is opening an Eastside shelter at Eastern Technical High School at 1 p.m. if you find your homes flooded.

RFCOP Crime Update Week of October 8th - 14th

October 14: Armed Robbery - Implied Gun, 500 block of York Road, 21286

At 8:40 p.m., the suspect approached the victim and asked for money. The victim gave the suspect some money, and the suspect then stated that he had a gun and demanded more money. The victim gave the suspect additional money. The suspect was located and arrested.

October 12 to 13: Commercial Burglary, 6200 block of North Charles Street, 21212

Between 11 p.m. on October 11 and 6 a.m. on October 12, an unknown suspect removed the lock from the Exxon station door to enter the convenience store. The suspect broke into the ATM and removed money. The suspect also removed scratch off lottery tickets from the safe.

October 12 to October 13: Commercial Burglary, 1600 block of Loch Ness Road, 21234

Between 10 p.m. on October 12 and 7 a.m. on October 13, an unknown suspect forced open the rear window to the Babcock Presbyterian Church and stole bronze medallions.

October 11: Armed Robbery, Aigburth Road and Donnybrook Road, 21204

At 1:10 a.m., three suspects approached the victims from the ground and one displayed a gun. The suspects pushed the victims to the ground and took cell phones, backpacks, and wallets. The first suspect is a black male, 18 to 25 years old, 5'8", with a medium build and light complexion. The second suspect is a black male, 18 to 25 years old, 5'9", with a medium build and medium complexion. The third suspect is a black male. They fled on foot after taking the victims' property.

October 10: Attempted Armed Robbery, 1100 block of Halstead Road, 21234

At 7:30 p.m., a man approached five teenagers in the alley and pushed one victim to the ground. He told that victim to empty his pockets. One of the other victims screamed and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect is a male and was wearing a mask.

October 9: Third Degree Burglary, 1200 block of Limit Avenue, 21239

At 4:08 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the home through a kitchen window and smashed a clock. Nothing appears to be missing.

October 9: First Degree Burglary, 6400 block of Falkirk Road, 21239

Between 11:10 and 11:50 a.m., an unknown suspect popped the front window lock to enter the home and remove electronics.

October 8 to October 9: Fourth Degree Burglary, 900 block of Fairmount Avenue, 21286

Between 10 p.m. on October 8 and 4 p.m. on October 9, a woman was arrested after she stole lawn furniture and items from a home in the 900 block of Fairmount Avenue, 1400 block of Taylor Avenue, and three homes in the 1900 block of Hillendale Road.

October 8 to October 9: Third Degree Burglary, 2300 block of West Joppa Road, 21093

Between 10 p.m. on October 8 and 9:30 a.m. on October 9, an unknown suspect entered the Maryland State Highway Administration building by unknown means and sprayed three fire extinguishers throughout the location.

October 8: Robbery, Goucher Boulevard and Putty Hill Avenue, 21286

At 8 p.m., a 14 year old male grabbed the victim's cell phone and ran. The suspect was arrested at the scene and charged as a juvenile.

October 8: First Degree Burglary, 1000 block of Pleasant Oaks Road, 21234

At 7 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the home and removed electronics. There were no signs of forced entry.

October 7: Fourth Degree Burglary, 1300 block of Racquet Road, 21209

At 1:30 p.m., two black males entered a storage yard belonging to Electrico and took coils of electrical wire.

Baltimore County Offering Free Gun Locks

Baltimore County gun owners can walk into any police precinct in the county to receive up to three free gun locks.

·         With several incidents involving guns in Baltimore County Public Schools this fall, the county has started a new program that should help gun owners secure their weapons.

·         “This has been a very difficult start of a school year,” said County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. “Now with yesterday’s incident, this is third weapon-related incident in the past eight weeks of school.”

·         Through a donation from the nonprofit Baltimore County Police Foundation, county residents who own guns can acquire up to three free gun locks by simply walking into any police precinct and showing that they live in the county.

·         Two Deer Park Middle School students, both 12, are charged with handgun violations after they traded a Bersa 380-caliber handgun for an Xbox and one of them brought ammunition to school Thursday.

·         In the previous incidents, one student shot a classmate during the first day of school at Perry Hall High School and another student displayed a handgun and threatened his teacher and students at Stemmers Run Middle School in Essex. A student at the Forsbush School at Glyndon in Reisterstown was charged with disturbing school activities and disorderly conduct after he said he had a gun, even though he didn’t.

·         “None of these incidents were caused by owners who were just being careless,” Kamenetz said. “Frankly, they were caused by owners who were being idiotic.”

·         He was joined by Baltimore County Police Chief Jim Johnson, Sheriff Jay Fisher and Councilman Ken Oliver at the Frankin Precinct in Reisterstown Friday afternoon to announce the new gun lock program.

·         “We have an obligation to be proactive to ensure the safety of all our citizens, particularly young individuals,” Johnson said.

·         The $4,700 donation from the police foundation paid for 2,000 locks, which are compatible with most handguns and long guns.

·         “Any police station in Baltimore County. Walk right in, show them you’re a Baltimore County resident, we’ll give you up to three of these locks,” Johnson said. “Please use them. We know they work and they’re very, very effective.”

·         Beyond the gun lock, Johnson suggest to secure the gun so children can’t remove them from hiding spots or take them out of the home. An inexpensive security system Johnson suggested included attaching the gun to an eye bolt using the gun lock and securing the bolt to a fixed structure.

·         Johnson hopes to keep the program going once the initial 2,000 locks are given out.

·         “As we begin to exhaust our supply, we’ll look for measures or means to continue this on,” he said. “This is good stuff. This is smart, proactive safety for all our families in our communities, so use these gun locks.”

BCPD Theft Alert

Once again we've seen reports of thefts from autos in the York Rd corridor. Six (6) cars were broken into and some property removed because the cars were not properly secured while parked outside the residences.  The targeted vehicles were parked in the 500 block of Wilton Rd and 100 block of Lapaix Ln.  As members of Towson Precinct Captain Trentzsch, Lt Stankowski and myself are asking you as community leaders in these affected neighborhoods to get the word out and stress the importance of properly securing all personal property when not being used.

RFCOP Crime Update Week of October 1st - 7th

Halloween is coming and also the Pumpkin Patrol:

The Citizens on Patrol wishes you all a safe weekend.  We will be patrolling the Forge in hopes of discouraging mischief night and Halloween night vandalism.  Please if you see anything suspicious do not hesitate to call the police.  Baltimore County Police and all of Towson communities are banding together to coordinate patrols for all communities.  RFCOP is also implementing a schedule of patrols for the weekend by Rodgers Forge COP members. 

Ghosts, Goblins and Trick-or-Treat are just around the corner:

Rodgers Forge has had several patrols on Mischief Night for the last couple years. Anyone can participate.  We can provide vehicle lights for car patrollers or vests for folks that would rather walk or ride bikes. It's a fun night and seems to decrease the number of incidents in The Forge. We would be more than willing to pair anyone up with an experienced patroller.

Halloween Safety Tips - From PCPD

Don't Be Afraid Of Halloween. Just Be Aware.

You don't need to be scared of the ghosts and goblins that come to your house this Halloween, just cautious. The Baltimore County Police Department suggests a few precautions this year before you open your door.

It may seem easier to leave your front door open with only the storm door closed, but please don't. Storm doors were not meant to act as deterrents to thieves and robbers. Keep your main door locked and don't open it until you've looked through a window or the door's peephole. Open your door to only those children and adults you know and recognize.

The Department advises trick-or-treaters to be aware of their surroundings as well. Visit only those neighbors who are familiar to you. Remind children not to eat goodies before they get home. When they do arrive home, parents need to check the contents of their children's bags. Look for such things as unwrapped candy, loose pieces of candy, and fruit. When checking candy wrappers, look for unusual markings or bumps and bulges. These could be signs of tampering. Throw away all unwrapped goodies. If something appears suspicious, err on the side of caution and get rid of it.

Some other suggestions

* Adults should accompany young children, and older kids should travel in groups.

* Obey all traffic laws. Walk on sidewalks whenever possible and cross at crosswalks or corners. Never cross between parked cars.

* Do not go into any vehicles or homes while trick-or-treating. Wait outside for treats.

 * Respect other people's property. Don't destroy it.

 * Stay in your own neighborhood.

 * Parents, make sure masks have large holes for the eyes. It is easy for little ones to trip and fall on a dark night. If possible, use make-up instead of a mask. Give children flashlights to carry with them. Flashlights or battery-powered Halloween torches or lamps enable them to see better. It also makes it easier for others, especially motorists, to see them.

Baltimore County Police hope everyone will have a safe and fun Halloween.

 

Take Away The Fun Of "Moving Night"

Baltimore's tradition of "Moving Night," October 30, is not something that everyone cherishes. For those not familiar with the term "Moving Night," it began years ago as a series of pranks, but it is now just another reason for thieves to steal outdoor furniture and anything else that isn't nailed down. Don't become a statistic, play it safe and follow a few easy steps.

* Leave all outside lights on overnight. Check and replace all burned out bulbs. Remember that the sun sets earlier now.* Trim back all shrubs and trees for maximum visibility for inside and outside viewing.

* Place all outdoor furniture, barbecue grills and other outdoor items in a locked garage, shed or basement. If these are not viable options, use a chain and lock and attach it to a fence, pole or railing.

* Network with neighbors. Keep an eye on each other's property. It is easier to keep track on neighborhood activities if there are more eyes keeping watch.

* Contact the local Citizens on Patrol group. Ask if there are some special plans for this evening. You might be able to assist the group by watching for any strange activity that might occur on your street.

* Let the local precinct know of any suspicious or criminal activities from years past that might affect your street this year.

* Call 911 if you see anything suspicious or anyone acting suspicious. When you talk to the dispatcher, explain why you think the activity looks strange. Remember that a group of teenagers is not always looking for trouble.

* Lock all vehicles and remove all valuables.

October 6: Attempted First Degree Burglary, Unit block of Dowling Circle, 21234

At 12:45 p.m., an unknown suspect used a rock to break an apartment window. A neighbor heard the noise and went to investigate. A screen was removed and the window was unlocked. It is unknown if entry was gained.

October 5 to October 6: First Degree Burglary, 400 block of Campus View Drive, 21204

Between 10:30 p.m. on October 5 and 2:30 p.m. on October 6, an unknown suspect cut the window screen to enter the apartment. Nothing has been reported missing at this time.

October 4: Armed Robbery - Knife, 6600 block of Collinsdale Road, 21234

At 8 a.m., two suspects approached the victim from behind and one suspect placed a knife to the victim's throat. The victim gave the suspects his phone and money, then slapped the arm of the suspect holding the knife. The suspect slashed at the victim, causing a cut to the victim's arm. The suspects, two black males in their late teens or early 20s, fled on foot.

September 30 to October 1: First Degree Burglary, 500 block of Castle Drive, 21212

Between 7 p.m. on September 30 and noon on October 1, an unknown suspect entered the apartment window and stole a carpet steamer and a vacuum cleaner

September 29: First Degree Burglary, 900 block of Fairmount Avenue, 21286

Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., an unknown suspect forced open the front door and took jewelry.

September 27: 500 block of Goucher Boulevard, 21286

Between 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., an unknown suspect broke the door glass to enter the home and take jewelry.

September 25: First Degree Burglary, 6900 block of Lochlan Circle, 21286

At 12:30 p.m., two suspects entered the victim's apartment through the front door. The suspects took a watch, video games, and electronics. Michael McKay, 28, of no fixed address, and Tayvon Miller, 26, of the 6800 block of Sturbridge Drive, 21204, were arrested at the scene and charged with burglary.

September 24: First Degree Burglary, 900 block of Dulaney Valley Court, 21204

At 1:30 p.m., a man entered the apartment through an unlocked window. Nothing was taken, and the suspect was arrested at the scene. Jose Cardona, 38, who also lives in the 900 block of Dulaney Valley Court, 21204, was arrested and charged with burglary.

September 23: Attempted Murder/Disorderly Crowd, 400 block of York Road, 21204

At approximately 1 a.m., officers responded for a large disorderly crowd in connection with an event at the Recher Theatre. Several arrests were made for disorderly conduct and assault. Three officers received minor injuries. While officers were in the area for the disorderly crowd, a man came up to one of the officers and reported that he had been shot in a parking garage at the Towson Town Center. He reported that a black male in a dark-colored vehicle fired several shots at him. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

September 23: Attempted Burglary, 700 block of Anneslie Road, 21212

Between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., an unknown suspect cut a screen and attempted to raise the garage door. Entry was not gained.

September 22: Fourth Degree Burglary, 100 block of West Road, 21204

At 9 a.m., an employee found a man inside the building. The suspect asked for a medic and was transported to the hospital.

September 21: Fourth Degree Burglary, 600 block of Wilton Avenue, 21286

At 3:30 p.m., a black male in his 20s removed a UPS package containing a purse from the front porch.

September 21: Fourth Degree Burglary, 400 block of Jefferson Avenue, 21204

Between 12:01 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the front porch and took two patio tables.

September 19 to September 20: First Degree Burglary, 400 block of Hopkins Road, 21212

Between 11 p.m. on September 19 and 6:25 a.m. on September 20, an unknown suspect entered the home through an unlocked window and took a laptop computer.

September 19: First Degree Assault, Beechwood Road and Saint Albans Road, 21239

At 9:24 p.m., two men struck the victim in the face with an unknown object. Henry Young, 18, of no fixed address, and James McCoy, 21, of the 900 block of Overbrook Road, 21239, were arrested and charged with assault.

September 19: First Degree Burglary, Unit block of Dowling Circle, 21234

At 12:25 a.m., three suspects kicked in the front door of the apartment. One of the suspects threw bleach on the victim. When officers responded to the apartment, a woman threw bleach on the officer, striking her in the face, arms and legs.

September 18: Commercial Burglary, 800 block of Dulaney Valley Road, 21286

At 1:54 a.m., two suspects jumped over the counter of The Great Cookie inside Towson Town Center. The suspects took 24 pounds of cookies.

September 17 to September 22: Fourth Degree Burglary, 1700 block of Roland Avenue, 21212

Between 4:30 p.m. on September 17 and 10 a.m. on September 22, an unknown suspect entered a detached garage and took golf clubs and tools
