B.C.P.D. Significant report is no longer being distributed see below:

From PC06 Captain Trentzsch and Sgt Fink,

Effective immediately I will not be forwarding you the Weekly Incident Report for Towson Precinct as the Baltimore County Police Department has developed a new means to distribute information to all Citizens of Baltimore County regarding crime trends, issues and other information concerning current activities in the County. Each Precinct in Baltimore County will have their crime reports, current events and public affairs issues posted on their own web site after review by the Media Relations Section thus ensuring that the proper information is distributed in a uniform fashion throughout the County. Realizing that this change will take time to adjust to we are always looking for feedback/suggestions to improve the site, making it as user-friendly and efficient as possible. Please feel free to forward your thoughts on this page to the Department's Media Relations or to us here at the Precinct 6 Community Outreach Team.

Stevenson Lane Water Leak Update

Here is an update on the Stevenson Lane water leak I asked for from the city Department of Public Works. Please share! David Marks

Mr. Marks,

DPW Maintenance has been working along with a leak detection specialist firm, WACHs, over the past several weeks to determine the source of the water periodically observed surfacing at the intersection of York Rd and Stevenson.

There have been a series of overnight water main shutdowns starting with the smaller 6 " to the largest 36". Unfortunately, there was no affect on the condition to allow a determination of which main may be the source of the water. As of today there is little or no water surfacing from the plated area. All mains in the York & Stevenson intersection have now been successfully shutdown with no conclusive evidence of where the water leak is coming from. It is possible that a large volume of water has accumulated and longer shut off time is required on this 36" main to determine if it is the source of the leak. The other mains when shutdown were left off for longer periods of time. Given the episodic nature of the surfacing water It could also be that the water source is coming from somewhere else.

The process being used is considered the most efficient manner to gain information. The alternative would be opening a larger excavation and trying to follow the water to a source. This would be very disruptive to the traffic flow for a longer period of time. Large scale excavation also presents increased risk of damage to adjacent utilities and buried traffic signal conduits that cross the intersection.

We are continuing with our investigation and will keep you informed of the progress towards a resolution. I would be pleased to discuss this in more detail at your convenience.

Rodgers Forge To Be Featured in Towson 4th of July Parade

Interested in participating? Read on! The following is a message from RFC Board members Janice Moore and Mike Calwell:

The Rodgers Forge Board of Governors was informed at the March meeting that our community is going to be the community featured this year during the Towson Fourth of July Parade. So we are seeking residents who would like to walk at the beginning of the parade basically behind the Grand Marshall(s).

Because of logistics, the parade has limited the number of participants from Rodgers Forge to about 30 or 40, so we will sign people up on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to participate, please send the name(s) of the walker(s), contact information (phone and email) and t shirt sizes to mikecalwell(at)gmail.com. You will be notified if you are a walker by the beginning of May. We will also ask some people who did not make the original list to be our "back up" walkers in case someone decides not to participate.

The parade will furnish us with a banner that will need to be carried, and the residents who sign up will walk behind the banner wearing a white t shirt that will have our blacksmith logo (like on the front of this year’s directory)on the back and possibly something very simple like “Historic Rodgers Forge” in the area of where a pocket would be in black. The time commitment would be approximately three hours and the walk is 1.5 miles.

Convinced yet? I have participated in the parade before and let me tell you, it is an experience that you will remember. Please consider walking in the Towson Fourth of July Parade. This will be a wonderful memory for you and your family.

Thank you-
Janice Moore and Mike Calwell, RFC, Inc. Board Members

Rodgers Forge Women Invited to Three Arts Club of Homeland Upcoming Events

The following is a message sent to the women of the community from the Three Arts Club of Homeland:

"I am writing to invite the ladies of Rodgers Forge to a luncheon and program on Monday, June 4th at The Three Arts Club of Homeland as pour guests. The club was established in 1929 by Mrs. Edward Milholland. In the 1960's the members raised funds and had a building constructed at 4 Wyndhurst Avenue. The front of the clubhouse is comprised of three arches to denote music, art and literature. The object of the club is to foster a love and appreciation of music, literature and art: and to afford opportunity for enriching the cultural life of the community by providing meetings, lectures, recitals, workshops, classes, exhibits and other activities in keeping with these ideals.

Each year the club provides scholarships and awards to students studying art, literature, music, dance and theater at Essex Comm. College, Maryland Institute of Art, Towson, University, Dundalk Comm. College, The Johns Hopkins University, Peabody Preparatory of Music, UMBC and Baltimore School for the Arts.

The club offers art outings, cultural tours, duplicate bridge, a book club, antiques seminars, music matinees, Mah Jongg, floral design classses, literature matinees and art shows and receptions.

We give to local charities including Can Too and the Guilford Academy and volunteer at the Baltimore Symphony Showhouse.

Each month the club hosts a luncheon and program on the first Monday of the month for its members. The luncheon begins at 11:45 followed by a program on June 4th by the "Young American Virtuosi". This trio has won their way into the hearts of millions of people through their concerts in North America, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. They have preformed at Carnegie Hall, did a Pre-Oylmpic concert in China and acted as soloists in the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Young German Symphony Orchesta.

As you can see, we are a very active group and hopefully you will consider joining us on Monday, June 4th. To make reservations or for additional information, please call 410 433-1765. I am also available to come to one of your monthly meetings to speak about our organization.

Also, I wanted to let you know that I'm planning a bus trip as a fundraiser for the Towson 4th of July Parade for Saturday, April 28, 2012. Hope you and members of the Hampton can join us as we travel back in time to New Castle, Delaware which was the first capital of Delaware; and today is considered one of the most unique towns in the U.S. We will tour four historic buildings including the Read House which is one of the finest examples of transitional Georgian/Federal Architecture and the Court House which was the 1st state house of Delaware and served as court house until 1882. A three course lunch will be served at the Jessop Tavern and Colonial Restaurant. There will be time to stroll through the town’s quaint gift shops. As in the past, we will leave from the Towson American Legion Parking Lot. I've included a flyer that has all the details. The price includes bus, bus driver's tip, admissions, lunch and snacks. Feel free to send the flyer to all of your e-mail and facebook friends. All profits go toward the 2012 parade which will be on Wednesday, July 4th. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope you can join us on what will be a step in history.

MULCH AND COMPOST AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE TO BALTIMORE COUNTY RESIDENTS

Towson, MD - The Baltimore County Bureau of Solid Waste Management has supplies of mulch and compost available to County residents, free of charge. These products are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, only at the Eastern Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Management Facility in White Marsh. This facility is located at 6259 Days Cove Road, and is open Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendants are not available to assist with loading the mulch/compost; residents are asked to bring their own container(s) and shovels to load the material themselves.

Mulch consists of chipped woody material, and can be used as a top covering around trees, bushes, etc. Compost results from the decomposition of grass, leaves, and small brush, and serves as a soil amendment to provide nutrients and enrichment to plants. The quality of the mulch and compost may vary, and the County offers no warranties regarding usage of these materials.

Residents interested in mulch and/or compost are urged to contact the Bureau in advance to ensure that supplies are still available. For availability information and directions, please call 410-887-2000.

Curb and Gutter Work Underway in Forge, Resurfacing to Follow

From a post back in August, Councilman Marks noted that there will be upcoming work done to our curbs and sidewalks but could not pinpoint the start date:

http://rodgersforgecommunity.blogspot.com/2011/08/curb-and-gutter-and-road-resurfacing.html

I have just been informed by RFCOP that the work is finally underway and all the mentioned streets have been marked off. Work on Blenheim began yesterday and should continue there and on Gaywood, Midhurst and Pinehurst during the coming week.

Once that work is completed resurfacing will begin on Blenheim, Dunkirk, Gaywood, part of Heathfield, Midhurst, Murdock and Pinehurst Roads.

Please take note and plan accordingly.

Tree Rodgers Forge Update/Guest Speakers At March Meeting

On February 22 the RFCA Board agreed to support the recommendation of the Tree Rodgers Forge Committee to send a letter to County Executive Kevin Kamenetz asking for assistance in evaluating the street tree canopy in Rodgers Forge, and developing a plan to restore this canopy for the future benefit of the neighborhood and the environment. We are hopeful for help from County officials. However, with or without County assistance, Tree Rodgers Forge will pursue the development of a strategy for the Forge.

New trees will be planted on Saturday, April 28, the day after Arbor Day and a week after Earth Day. We are working with Blue Water Baltimore, a regional watershed organization, to obtain street trees that can be planted in front of the homes of residents who would like to add new trees or replace trees that have been cut down. Details on how to obtain, plant and maintain trees will follow in the coming weeks. We hope that tree planting can become a regular spring and fall event.

Why trees? Recent editorial and blog posts in the Baltimore Sun describe the reasons Baltimore City is aggressively pursuing a tree planting program, with the strong support of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

We believe that a similar program would benefit Rodgers Forge, and for that matter the entire county. Trees and watersheds know no political boundaries. An important part of the Tree RF mission is to educate and inform residents about all of the economic, environmental, social and aesthetic benefits of a healthy tree canopy.

As an initial step toward providing information, two speakers have been invited to speak at the next Board meeting on March 14. Debra Lenik, an intern with Blue Water Baltimore, will discuss ways BWB assists communities in obtaining and planting trees. Donald Outen, a staff member at the county Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability, will discuss the extensive data available on the decline of Baltimore County’s urban tree canopy. We hope residents will attend the March 14 Board meeting to hear this discussion.
