Scenario G!

The Boundary Committee voted tonight to recommend Scenario G to Baltimore County Board of Education.

There was a modest turnout of people, most of whom were supporting Scenario G. There were several people in support of Scenario E-1, holding Scenario E-1 signs.

While this meeting was open to the public, it was structured to not allow input from the public. Interestingly, most of the members of the Boundary Committee had their backs to the crowd.

Of further interest is that the committee members were presented with the results of the surveys taken at the redistricting meeting held at Loch Raven High School several weeks ago. This was the first time the committee had been given this information, as I understand, and the committee spent less than 15 minutes discussing the results. One committee member who wished to have more discussion regarding the data and other information presented to the committee since the Loch Raven HS meeting was 'shut down' and the committee decided to move forward with their voting.

It was also made clear that this meeting was to vote; any discussion on amending the proposed boundary selection had to wait. The committee did quickly share their thoughts on how they might amend Scenario G.

The next steps include working to amend the Boundary Committee recommended scenario to include the Pinehurst duplexes that were not included on the official Scenario G map and trying to enhance the map to potentially include Gaywood, Armagh Village, etc.

On February 9, at Greenwood on Charles Street, the Boundary Committee's recommendation of Scenario G will be formally presented to the Board of Education. Limited public input will be allowed, but the meeting will be open to the public.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who had an interest in this matter and made their voice heard!

  1. This is the first I've heard of trying to include Armagh Village! Did you mean Gaywood and Pinehurst? Armagh is not included in the RFES boundary in any of the plans. Keeping the Forge together is one thing, but please, RFCA, remember that the goal here was to have a school that is not overcrowded!!

  2. The board is very happy that Scenario G is going to be recommended to the Board of Education.

    In mentioning Gaywood, Pinehurst, and Armagh Village, the intent was suggest that the boundary as presented in Scenario G isn't necessarily the final boundary--it is subject to change.

    In any event, we're happy to have a proposal that keeps Rodgers Forge intact. Certainly, we want to support other communities in the process, but not at the expense of having Rodgers Forge divided.

  3. Though shipping other children across Rogers Forge is acceptable, this is one community. The imaginary boundary is just that. Proximity should be the deciding factor. Those in the Forge that are closer should go to the new school. Both schools will be great but it saddens me that a line in the sand means that my children don't belong to the same community as your children, they do.

  4. While the recommended option G was the best of four bad deals, evidently the boundary committee was not open to alternatives. Long term, two easy fixes are to expand RFES with permanent buildings where the portables now stand and to have a stand alone Pre-K and K building on school grounds nearby.

  5. What makes you even think Armagh Village even wants to be included in an over crowded RFES??? Have you polled the residents there? Why is the RFCA so darn CLUELESS! And why mention Armagh Village and not Pinehurst? What is your problem? You really have such amazing lack of any insight into this issue.

  7. By the way Janice, Option G is not necessarily going to be recommended to the Board. The boundary committee recommended G to her and now she has the unfortunate job of trying to make that sound like a good decision. She can except or reject it. She has until Wed to make her recommendation to the Superintendent and then He will recommend an option to the Board.
    Yet another example of how you have been pretty clueless through out this whole process.

  8. You do not have kids at RF so maybe you just don't care if a map that included as you say Gaywood, Armaugh Villiage, etc. would make it hideously overcrowded again. But guess what? WE DO! Such a plan is never never never going to fly with the board of ed and for good sound reason. I know sound reason is not your strong point, but could you please just get that through your head and stop posting these silly things. Maybe you are just trying to make amends with the ENTIRE community surrounding RF who your actions have so offended. Too little, to late.

  11. Please post the minutes from the January Board Meeting. According to the flyer that was passed around the community endorsing "Option G", it was a unanimous decision amongst the board members. The lack of above the table information along with underlying intimidation from a select few seem to be the driving force of the RFCA.

  13. UPDATE!!

    Assistant Superintendent Barbara Walker says to Forge Flyer:

    "I have made my recommendation to the Superintendent. The recommendation is first presented at the Board meeting on February 9 and then released the next day to involved schools and interested parties who make a request. Therefore, I cannot release the information until after the first Board meeting."

    There will be a public meeting with the Board of Education on Feb. 24 where the public can speak about the recommendation. Then the board will vote on the recommendation on March 9.

    NOTE: The Feb. 9th - 7:00pm meeting is open to the public.

  14. The actual quote by A. Lincoln is:

    "It is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time;
    you can even fool some of the people all of the time;
    but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time."

    I think that is the more relevant quote here. RFCS fooled some but certainly not all. Your rude treatment of your neighbors will be remembered.
