Below is the letter of opposition sent to TU officials from Greater Towson Council of Community Associations, of which RFC, Inc is a member of, regarding the Softball Stadium Project:

Dear Dr. Loeschke,
The Greater Towson Council of Community Associations (GTCCA), an umbrella group representing 30 communities in the Towson area, supports Rodgers Forge Community’s position on the proposed softball field renovation. As evidenced by comments from nearby residents at the meeting of July 21, there is overwhelming sentiment that even with the adjustments to the plan it is still unacceptable.
If the softball field remains in the current location, there will be another contentious process when the addition of lighting becomes a reality at some future date.
The fact that the field needs improvement is not in dispute. It is important for the safety of the athletes and spectators. The best solution is to relocate the field away from residential communities. Noise from spectators and PA system, foul balls, and lighting would have far less impact on the quality of life of Towson University’s neighbors.
There is an additional cost to relocate the field, however that would go a long way toward not only improving the relationship between University and community, but would increase the nearby property values, thereby strengthening the stability of the neighborhood.
GTCCA strongly recommends delaying construction of the improved softball field for one year to more thoroughly evaluate alternate sites for the field and working to obtain additional funding. As mentioned at the July 21st meeting, Rodgers Forge residents would be happy to support an alternate field location and would help lobby for funding. GTCCA would support that effort as well.
The cheapest or easiest option may not always be the best course to being a good neighbor. GTCCA asks that you reconsider the current plan.
Sincerely,
Paul Hartman
President, GTCCA
