Upcoming Closure of Cromwell Bridge Road Sat. 8/13/2011

I wanted to let you know of a road closure in the Parkville/Towson area. BGE will be removing two trees along Cromwell Bridge Road that have been deemed hazardous to the road and to BGE facilities. In order to effectively facilitate their removal, BGE will need to use a crane. Because of the width of the crane and the size of the working area, the road will be fully closed during the time the crane will be in operation.

As a result, Cromwell Bridge Road between Oakleigh Road and Satyr Hill Road will be closed on Saturday, August 13th. If heavy rain precludes working on the 13th, August 14th will be used as a back-up day. My understanding is that the work will begin at 9 a.m., and wrap-up by 4 p.m. Signs will be posted a few days before the closure.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but wanted to let you know about this as soon as I found out about it.

Identity Theft Can Be Easy If You Let It

A few weeks ago, the Rodgers Forge C.O.P. provided an extensive report explaining about identity theft and how to prevent it. Well, sometimes, identity theft can be easy if you let it.

Our resident overnight foot patroller, was making his rounds on Monday July 25 when he came across a piece of trash outside the Midstate Professional Building on York Road. This piece of trash could have cost someone their identity. The piece of trash that he found was an application for a taxi cab driver's license. The application contained all the valuable information anyone could use to steal one's identity. Name, address, DOB, driver's license number & SSN were all on the application.

The patroller called the non-emergency number to report the found property. Officer Heyman came to retrieve the application. Officer Heyman was going to try & contact the individual and/or the cab company. The incident # for the report is # 112060170.

As our days darken sooner, this may serve as a timely reminder. The theft of valuables from a vehicle and the theft of the vehicle itself can happen at any place and any time. Thieves will break into any vehicle if they think there is something of value to be stolen. Valuables left in plain view include cell phones, GPS, CD's, cash, purses, etc. Theft from auto and auto theft can be prevented by following some basic crime prevention tips:

- Always lock your car doors and close your windows completely.
- Always park in well-lit areas or in garages.
- Never leave your car running.
- Do not leave valuables in plain view, no matter where you park. Hide them under a covering or lock them in your trunk or bring them into the house at night.
- When transporting valuables, place them in the trunk before you get to your destination. Don't transfer them while at the parking space.
- Mark valuables with a state ID number to increase chances of having property returned if it is stolen. Record the make, model and serial number of these items and keep the list at home.
- If using valet service, leave only the ignition key with the attendant.
- If residential parking consists of driveway and/or curbside parking, consider security lighting from dusk to dawn as an inexpensive crime prevention method.

On a related note, residents are now reporting theft from vehicles of work people in the area. An example is theft of a leaf blower from a truck. You may want to tell your service people to lock up and not keep extra things in their trucks, if possible.

Call 911 immediately to report a theft or suspicious activity (persons or vehicles). Provide police with a description of the suspects and their vehicle if it is known or observed.

Baltimoe County Dept. of Aging 5K (local street closures and race info) 8/28/2011

Message from the Dept. of Aging regarding the event:

"The morning of Sunday, August 28, 2011 the Baltimore County Department of Aging will be hosting it's annual Get Ready! Get Set! Get Fit! 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk at Towson University. The run starts at Johnny Unitas Stadium, but because of the construction on campus the event will go out into the adjacent community this year. I have attached the course so you can see the exact streets that will be used. Baltimore County police will be on hand to close parts of roads for the duration of the race (approximately 1 hour) and we will have course marshals along the course to hand out water and provide emergency care if necessary.

I am hoping that you will be able to get the word out to your community so they know the event is being held and they can make plans accordingly. Your residents will still be able to get through the neighborhood during the race, but they might wonder what is going on when people start running down the street.

5K Race in Rodgers Forge August 28 – 8:00 am

The event is the annual “Get Ready! Get Set! Get Fit!” 5K run which is being held to benefit senior citizens in Baltimore County. The race begins at Towson University's Johnny Unitas stadium at 8am but because of the construction on campus the event will go out into the adjacent community this year. The course is listed below. It should be finished completely by 9:30 a.m. The Baltimore County Police are responsible for directing traffic and closing one lane of traffic for the race. We will also have course marshals along the course to hand out water and provide emergency care if necessary. A permit has been issued by Baltimore County.

Help get the word out to the community. Residents will still be able to get through the neighborhood during the race, but they might wonder what is going on when people start running down the street.

Baltimore County Code Enforcement Neighborhood Sweep Week of Aug 29th

The following is a message from Jen Helfrich, RFC President:

"Lionel Van Dommelen, Chief of Code Enforcement for Baltimore County, informed the Rodgers Forge Community Association the date for the neighborhood sweep looking for code violations concentrating on rat related violations, will be the week of August 29th. Based on conversations with personnel at the Code Enforcement office, although a sweep includes looking for all code violations, the request from the community association was due to a rat problem and the focus will be on rat harborages and contributing factors, but not limited to those only.
It is a two-day sweep that will occur on Monday and on Thursday. Here are examples of contributing factors to rat problems:

trashcans without lids
dog feces
trash junk and debris
fallen fruit from fruit bearing trees
bird feeders where seeds are all over the ground
firewood not elevated 18 inches of the ground
Code Enforcement officers are entitled to enter properties if they suspect further investigation is necessary. The officers are experienced and respectful of property and use their discretion whether or not to enter a yard based on safety and suspicion of violations.
Warnings will be issued giving 30 days to act before fines are assigned. "

This notice will be posted in the upcoming newsletter as well as hand-delivered to each house in the neighborhood shortly.

While on patrol, one of our patrollers found a sign on a pole @ Stevenson & Dumbarton advertising a found camera from 7/11. It was discovered on a roof of a car in the 300 block of Stanmore. Our patroller called 911 to see if an officer could respond to his location and check to see if a camera might have been one of the stolen items. Ofc. Heyman responded and it was discovered there was a camera stolen from a vehicle on Chumleigh last week. Ofc. Heyman is going to call the complainant this morning to see if the camera might belong to her. He will also call the individual who found the camera. We may have a possible reuniting of stolen property with its owner. Great teamwork between a patroller, citizen and police!!
