MOTOR VEHICLE BREAK INS:

Last week’s crime report update included information of surrounding communities that had experienced car breaks-ins.  It appears since the return of school unwanted people are gearing up for crime.  We are now experiencing car break-ins in the forge.   See below information shared by one of our neighbors.

I wanted to alert you to the fact that car break-ins are on the rise again.  My neighbor had his road bike stolen this past Sunday night/Monday morning and my wife's wallet was stolen last night.  Both households were certain that we had locked our doors but with busy days etc., it appears that we didn't.  No signs of forced entry.  So, people are walking our streets checking door handles and taking what is inside.  We confirmed that there were many, many attempts with her check card and credit card, one of which went through.  It is sad to think that someone will capitalize on the occasional forgetfulness of residents but that is the case certainly on Murdock Rd.  Please report any suspicious nighttime foot traffic to the authorities.  Thank you.

BURLARIES - BREAK INS:

Please get the word out to your community members to always lock their doors and windows to prevent burglaries and thefts of property.  Between 08/22 & 23/12 there were three burglaries in the Murdock Rd and Overbrook Rd neighborhoods.  These incidents are being investigated but presently no suspect information is known.

752 Overbrook-pried window screen, entered through unlocked window to steal property.

Concerned Citizen on Stevenson School Crossing for Children:
Has there been any discussion on how to get the message to driver to stop for pedestrians at pedestrian crossings in RF? I am concerned about the children crossing Stevenson Lane to go to DMS and to get to the ball fields - at both pedestrian crossings on Stevenson Lane.  Most drivers don't stop. In fact, they speed through.

Some Thoughts on addressing this problem:

The county and school board have placed islands to attempt to slow the traffic, but with little effect.  The only thoughts at the moment would be if someone can get a description of the cars and license plates and also approach the school and school board referencing using a crossing guard. It might be useful to gather a group of parents to attend the board meeting to discuss this issue as they have the most direct line of communication with the schools.

I will put out a request in the weekly emails and on the COP page of the concerns of our children’s safety and try to raise more awareness and encourage everyone to look into this issue for other solutions.

 

If anyone in the neighborhood has any other suggestions, please feel free to share them.  Reply to this email with your thoughts and suggestions.  Our children are our future.

Labor Day Trash & Recycling Reminder

Due to the Labor Day Holiday, there will be no trash nor recycling collection

on that day. Those residents whose regular trash collection day is Monday

will have their trash picked up on Tuesday September 4. Those residents whose

recycling collection day is Monday are asked to hold their recyclables for collection

until Monday September 10.

Runners & Walkers Needed for Charity Team at Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival

Are you a walker or a runner?  Do you care about children?  Towson-based Maryland CASA Association, a non-profit organization that recruits and trains volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for children under court protection due to abuse and neglect, is seeking runners and walkers to join its charity team at the Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival on October 13, 2012.  "Team CASA" needs 50 more members to reach the 150 minimum required to qualify as a charity team.  Team members may compete in the 5k, half-marathon, full marathon or team relay.  There is also a Kids Fun Run.  Team members will receive an official Team CASA performance race shirt and access to the Team CASA tent in Celebration Village for food and drink throughout the day.  Incentive prizes will be provided for team members who reach designated fundraising levels and there will be top prizes for the top fundraisers.  Corporate sponsors and individual supporters are also needed to support our team.  We are also seeking volunteers to help at a water stop on the race route.  To register, please visit http://www.goteamcasa.org/ or call 410-828-6761 for more information.

Councilman Marks Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for RFES Bike Rack

Councilman Marks joined students of Rodgers Forge Elementary School, principal Missy Fanshaw and Stu Sirota, who spearheaded the Safe Routes To School campaign in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand new bike rack recently installed on the grounds.

The rack was funded using grant money Sirota's program received from the National Center for Safe Routes to School and an anonymous donor.

Students are now encouraged to not only walk to school every day but ride their bikes as well.

August 12: Attempted Burglary, 1300 block of West Lake Avenue, 21210

At 11:39 a.m., the suspect entered the backyard and attempted to open the patio door. A resident was home and challenged the suspect, who fled on foot northbound on Falls Road. The suspect is a black male, 40 to 45 years old, 5'6", with a thin build.

August 10 to August 11: First Degree Burglary, 100 block of Solar Circle, 21234

Between 12:30 a.m. on August 10 and 6:30 a.m. on August 11, an unknown suspect unlocked the victim's front door and took her purse. The victim had recently lost her keys.

August 8: Armed Robbery, 6600 block of Wycombe Way, 21234

At 11:50 p.m., a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza met the suspect in the parking lot to deliver food. The suspect displayed a knife, and stole money and food. Detectives identified and charged three suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

August 8 to August 9: First Degree Burglary, 6900 block of Donachie Road, 21286

Between 3 p.m. on August 8 and 1:30 p.m. on August 9, an unknown suspect entered a vacant apartment.

August 6: Commercial Burglary, 800 block of Dulaney Valley Road, 21286

At 11 p.m., a man jumped over the counter of the Great Cookie after it closed. Cash was taken from the register drawers. The suspect is a black male, 20 to 30 years old, 5'10", with a medium build.

August 6 to August 7: Second Degree Burglary, 1600 block of Dennis Avenue, 21204

Between 9 p.m. on August 6 and 5:20 a.m. on August 7, an unknown suspect entered a detached garage and took two bicycles. One was recovered a short distance away.

August 5: Attempted Second Degree Burglary, 1700 block of Wentworth Avenue, 21234

At 2:36 a.m., a man woke up as four suspects were attempting to enter his shed. The suspects fled on foot when he went outside. All four suspects are described as black males.

August 5 to August 6: First Degree Burglary, 1600 block of Wentworth Avenue, 21286

Between 12:01 a.m. on August 5 and 5 p.m. on August 6, an unknown suspect removed electronics from the home. The victim left the door unlocked and there was no forced entry.

Baltimore County Police Offer School Safety Tips

·       School Bus Safety
Drivers should be aware of the consequences if they fail to stop for a school bus.

·       Load Up The Kids - And Lock Up The House
Remember to lock the doors and windows before taking the kids to school or the bus stop.

·       Educate Your Children
Share these safety tips with your children as they return to school.

Wait For School Buses

The Baltimore County Police Department is reminding all drivers to stop when the lights on school buses are flashing.
Maryland law states that vehicles must come to a complete stop on both sides of the street if there is no physical divider or barrier. Drivers who pass the bus before all lights have ceased flashing may face the following consequences:

·       Drivers who pass school buses while the lights are flashing will receive a citation that carries a maximum payable fine of $570 and a 3-point penalty.

·       Drivers who stop but then proceed while the lights are flashing will receive a citation that carries a maximum payable fine of $570 and a 2-point penalty.

Children are not always aware of their surroundings and assume that drivers will stop for them. Youngsters also dart into the road without looking first for traffic. Allow room for the frequent stops that happen during the morning pick up and the afternoon drop off.
Maryland's future is in its children so let's protect them.

Load Up The Kids - And Lock Up The House

Here's an important reminder: before you walk or load the kids up for the drive to the bus stop or school, lock your doors. Those few minutes that you are away from home can be the perfect morning stop for a burglar. It may seem overly cautious to lock windows and doors when leaving for such a short time period, but the time spent doing this can deter a burglar and prevent some major problems later.
The Baltimore County Police Department suggests that everyone establish the habit of basic security when leaving the house in the morning. Parents or daycare providers could make the procedure a learning experience for the children. Many people have a morning checklist to make things simpler during that early morning rush hour. Why not add a security checklist to your morning routine? Depending on the age or ages of the children, let them help you get out of the house by giving them a task that relates to their security.
Older children should check and lock the windows, while the younger ones can see if the doors are locked behind you when you leave.
When you are on the way to and from school, keep watch on what is going on in your neighborhood. Look for strangers who seem to be lurking on the sidewalk, with no real purpose. Watch for cars driving slowly through the neighborhood. They might be sizing up potential targets. If you are concerned, dial 911 as soon as you return home, or on your cell phone if you have one. Try to provide a basic description of the individual or car that worries you. It will help police if they have this information.
Do not think that burglars work only at night, in the dark. They are opportunists, and will look for likely targets at any time of the day. In fact, many burglars strike during daylight hours when they believe all the occupants of a house may be at school or work. Make their life harder by taking these basic crime prevention measures.

Educate Your Children About School Safety

Baltimore County Police are reminding parents/guardians and children about school safety. Officers are routinely trained in child safety and missing children investigations. That information is then shared with parents.
Although the Police Department educates children in school on stranger danger, parents can also provide other child safety topics. The following tips are just a few suggestions:

·       Be aware of putting your child's name on anything that is readily visible. This might allow an abductor to get on a "first name" basis with your child and develop a sense of trust.

·       Walk the route to and from school with your children, pointing out safe places to go if they are being followed or need help.

·       Talk to your children about strangers approaching them and some of the ploys they might use.  Stress to them that adults shouldn't need a child's help to find a puppy or get directions; they should ask another adult for that information.

·       Teach your children that it is okay to say NO - tell them to trust their instincts.

·       Remind your children to never give the impression they are home alone if strangers telephone or come to the door.  Never open the door for a stranger, and teach them about dialing 911.

August 5: Attempted Second Degree Burglary, 1700 block of Wentworth Avenue, 21234

At 2:36 a.m., a man woke up as four suspects were attempting to enter his shed. The suspects fled on foot when he went outside. All four suspects are described as black males.

August 3: First Degree Burglary, 1700 block of Aberdeen Road, 21234

Between 7:30 a.m. and 3:10 p.m., an unknown suspect pried open the front door and removed tools and electronics.

August 3: Commercial Burglary, 6300 block of York Road, 21212

At 5:50 a.m., an unknown suspect broke the front door glass of the Radio Shack and attempted to take cell phones.

August 3: Commercial Burglary, 1700 block of East Joppa Road, 21234

At 2:30 a.m., a man broke out the front door glass of Conrad’s Crabs and removed money.

August 2: Robbery, 8600 block of Pleasant Plains Road, 21234

At 4:24 a.m., two suspects entered the 7-11 and took money and cigarettes after threatening the clerk. The first suspect is a white male, 40 to 49 years old, 5’9” tall. The second suspect is a white male, 40 to 49 years old.

August 1: Robbery, 1000 block of Taylor Avenue, 21234

At 10:14 p.m., three suspects pushed the victim to the ground and assaulted him. They fled on foot with the victim’s phone. The first suspect is a black male, 16 to 17 years old, 5’4”, with a small build and dark complexion. The second suspect is a black male, 16 to 17 years old. The third suspect is a black male, 16 to 17 years old.

August 1: Armed Robbery – Gun, 6900 block of Donachie Road, 21234

At 1:16 a.m., two suspects armed with a handgun approached two victims and took phones and a debit card from the victims. The suspects fled on foot. The first suspect is a black male, 18 to 25 years old, 6’1”, 150 pounds, with a thin build and medium complexion. The second suspect is a black male, 18 to 25 years old, 5’8”, with a medium build.

July 31: Robbery, 800 block of Dulaney Valley Road, 21204

At 4:50 p.m., two victims reported that they were at the mall entrance between the Cheesecake Factory and Stoney River when they were approached by four suspects. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s cell phone and a second suspect began struggling of a purse with the second victim. The suspects fled southbound on Dulaney Valley Road. The suspects are described as four black males, 18 to 19 years old.

July 31: Robbery, 800 block of York Road, 21204

At 4:25 p.m., a woman was waiting in line at the Exxon when a man grabbed her phone from her hand and fled southbound on York Road on foot. The first suspect is a black male, 18 to 23 years old, 5’7”, with a thin build. The second suspect is a black male, 18 to 23 years old, 5’8”, with a thin build.

July 30: First Degree Burglary, 600 block of Walker Avenue, 21212

At 11:10 p.m., two men cut a screen to enter an apartment and remove a purse. A 14 year old juvenile was charged. The second suspect has not been identified.

July 30 to July 31: Commercial Burglary, 8100 block of La Salle Road, 21286

Between 5 p.m. on July 30 and 5:45 a.m. on July 31, an unknown suspect broke a plywood door to enter a construction area at Calvert Hall and removed copper wiring and fittings.

July 29: First Degree Burglary, 1700 block of Ryewood Road, 21234

Between 2:30 and 10:30 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the home through an unlocked rear door. The suspect removed money and a computer.

July 29: Armed Robbery, 600 block of Walker Avenue, 21212

At 1:35 a.m., three suspects approached the victim and asked for money. Two of the suspects began kicking and punching the victim. They stole his cell phone and fled on foot. All three suspects are described as black males in their 20s. One suspect was 5'7" tall.

July 26: Fourth Degree Burglary, 6600 block of Loch Raven Boulevard, 21239

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., an unknown suspect removed copper downspouts from the home.

July 25: First Degree Burglary, Unit block of Dowling Circle, 21234

Between an unknown time and 12:18 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the apartment through unknown means and removed electronics.

July 23 to July 24: Attempted Burglary, 8200 block of Pleasant Plains Road, 21286

Between 10 p.m. on July 23 and 5 p.m. on July 24, an unknown suspect pushed open several screens to try to enter the residence but all the windows were locked.

July 23: First Degree Burglary, 8400 block of Greenway Road, 21234

At 1:38 p.m., a woman was home when two maintenance workers came to her apartment. Money was taken out of her purse while they were there.
